Ausseneinrichter Jan Hauser
I've photographed Jan Hauser's work for over fifteen years now. He designs outdoor spaces the way other people compose paintings: material, proportion, light and shadow, all of it decided long before I arrive.
Which presents a professional dilemma. His work is so photogenic that pressing the shutter is, technically, most of the job. My contribution is knowing when to press it: the hour the surfaces catch the light, the angle where a structure meets its surroundings, the frame that shows what the space feels like rather than merely what's in it.
Fifteen years in, he still believes my job is difficult. I see no reason to correct him.
